We’ve talked before about the many benefits of yoga such as improved athletic performance, a healthier immune system and stress management.  There are many different types of yoga practices, all of which can help you achieve the benefits listed above, but you can also garner some additional benefits from practicing hot yoga in our Mississauga studio.

Hot yoga classes offered at Mind to Body in Mississauga, typically have the room temperature ranging from 93 to 98 degrees Fahrenheit. Hot yoga is pretty much as it sounds, meaning that the yoga class is held in a room with a higher than normal temperature. So, why do people practice yoga in a higher temperature?  Well, now that we’ve talked about what hot yoga is, we can move on to exploring the benefits that come with it.

During a hot yoga class, your body may receive the following benefits:

  • Added Flexibility. The heated room will allow you to safely gain greater flexibility in your poses, which is therapeutic for your body.
  • Deeper With the added heat in the room, you won’t make it through the class if you forget to breathe deeply. Hot yoga classes are a great way to augment your ability to breathe in a full and controlled manner.
  • A Higher Cardio Workout. For those that think yoga is not enough of a work out, hot yoga is something you need to try. Did you know that your heart can do the same work doing hot yoga as it would when running a few kilometers? A 90-minute class can burn up to 1,000 calories. The stretching and movements of hot yoga also ignites your metabolism so you burn calories long after the class is over.
  • Not surprisingly, yoga in a hot room will make you sweat. Yoga postures are detoxifying for your muscles, organs, and glands and sweating during hot yoga deepens those benefits. The heat primes the body for eliminating toxins by activating the lymphatic system and increasing blood circulation.
  • Hot yoga has been known to reduce symptoms of diabetes, asthma, high blood pressure, depression, arthritis and obesity.

  • Drink lots of water during the hours leading up to your class so that you are well hydrated.
  • Eat only a light meal or snack, no more than an hour before the class.
  • Take the class at your own pace, there is no need to compete with those around you.
  • Replenish yourself after class with lots of water (coconut water is a great after class option) and a snack that includes protein.

I was in search of a yoga teacher training program and stumbled upon Mind to Body....its become my second home ever since. The yoga teacher training program was very detail oriented and definitely prepared for my yoga journey. They covered a lot of topics like anatomy and basics of ayurveda as well. I continue to attend regular yoga classes there now. They offer many various different types of classes..my favs are the restorative and yin classes. The staff is very inviting and friendly and the studio is very very clean and well maintained. Oh yea...can't forget the complimentary delicious detox tea i have every time i attend a class is a bonus!!read more

The mind to body yoga teacher training program was a life changing experience. Not only were we taught the foundations of yoga practice, we were also given the opportunity to form relationships with a variety of yogis. If I could give Mind to Body more than 5 stars I would! Since starting at this studio 6 months ago, all my aches and pains have been eliminated. That's due to yoga but more so thanks to the personable, caring, passionate and dedicated instructors. It's a blessing to have found a yoga studio where each class by any instructor here is taught with so much passion and bring their own experiences and way of teaching, teaching the right techniques and foundations of poses (grounding feet and hands) alot of others overlook when teaching. They don't ever ever ever make you feel like you have to do a pose they always tell you to follow your body. Love the variety of classes, started with Restorative yoga and now on to hot detox yoga which I didn't ever think I'd do. Mind to body has a great community of employees and members who are always friendly with a huge smile on their faces. It's been so great to connect with other members especially while having the detox tea, yum! Honestly don't know how they keep it so clean with so many members but it's immaculate and shiny. Floors are always swept and mopped constantly. Couldn't have found a more amazing yoga studio, love you guys for all that you do! It's definitely been a life changing process and I'm excited to continue to grow in every way with all of you :).read more

I found this studio six months ago, after having searched for a calm and rejuvenating space for a long time. I'm so grateful that Mind to Body Yoga has become my space for growth, fitness and connection.I have tried various classes and I love the fact that each and everyone of them is inviting, knowledgeable and caring about the pace and the participants.The studio is always clean and organized.They also offers many classes on meditation and restorative yoga to enhance and learn new techniques.I have certainly achieved a better mind to body connection since I joined this studio.read more
