You Can Start Yoga At Any Age

If you think that Yoga is only for the young, think again. Yoga in fact is such a holistic approach to well being that you can start it at any age.  Contrary to the popular notion that Yoga only suits those who are flexible, agile and full of vitality, the truth is that this science assists people to achieve the aforementioned qualities at any age.  This means that it does not matter whether you are in your 40s, 50s, or 60s; you can start Yoga anytime without any fear. The only thing to keep in mind while joining a Yoga class is to do yoga with a qualified teacher at a studio that is accessible to you and you feel good practicing at.

Now let’s look at what seniors can achieve by practicing Yoga:

More flexible and agile body

Our hectic lifestyle hardly gives us any time to exercise regularly and consequently, we start getting those nagging aches and pains after 40.  People who want to avoid medicines take recourse to physical exercise, but once you are on the right side of 50, strenuous physical activity can worsen your pain instead of removing it. Yoga, on the other hand, gently brings your body back into shape. You can start with gentle Yoga that makes your body flexible enough to take part in a regular regimen. Yoga comprises an array of low impact postures that are easy on your body and that make your body more flexible and agile at the same time.

Safe exercise routine

Yoga is all about bringing your body and mind in harmony with nature. The stretching postures not only give one the flexibility to cope with daily stress, they also prove to be very gentle for your aging body.  As there are no weights involved in Yoga, the chances of injury are either very low or negligible. This means that Yoga is the ideal exercise for aging people. In addition to this, Yoga involves the exercise of those body parts that no other physical routine does. For example, a simple breathing technique can strengthen your abdominal muscles and lungs at the same time. Unlike the regular cardio exercises, Yoga is particularly soft on your heart.

Stronger bone health

Bone health is the biggest concern of aging people, especially those who suffer from osteoporosis and other bone-related ailments.  Conventional exercise regimens such as running and weight lifting can be very dangerous for aging people.  Yoga, on the other hand, is a simple yet effective exercise that not only helps prevent injuries, but that also slows down bone density loss. The gentle twisting poses and stretches of Yoga in particular work wonders for people with osteoporosis.  People suffering from pain due to an existing bone condition can also benefit a lot from Yoga.

In addition to all the above benefits, yoga creates a harmony between our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects. As a result, you become more joyous and enjoy every aspect of your life. So, what are you waiting for? Simply pick up your Yoga mat and head to our yoga studio.

Lovely knowledgeable teachers. The owner is super nice and gets to know her clients. The facility is clean, had a comfy atmosphere and offers free tea to practitioners, the only dislike I have id that there is Buddah images and statues everywhere and not everyone coming to the studio may not be a Buddhist. It would be nice if the studios itself did not have statues, other than that it is a overall great experience.read more

If I could give Mind to Body more than 5 stars I would! Since starting at this studio 6 months ago, all my aches and pains have been eliminated. That's due to yoga but more so thanks to the personable, caring, passionate and dedicated instructors. It's a blessing to have found a yoga studio where each class by any instructor here is taught with so much passion and bring their own experiences and way of teaching, teaching the right techniques and foundations of poses (grounding feet and hands) alot of others overlook when teaching. They don't ever ever ever make you feel like you have to do a pose they always tell you to follow your body. Love the variety of classes, started with Restorative yoga and now on to hot detox yoga which I didn't ever think I'd do. Mind to body has a great community of employees and members who are always friendly with a huge smile on their faces. It's been so great to connect with other members especially while having the detox tea, yum! Honestly don't know how they keep it so clean with so many members but it's immaculate and shiny. Floors are always swept and mopped constantly. Couldn't have found a more amazing yoga studio, love you guys for all that you do! It's definitely been a life changing process and I'm excited to continue to grow in every way with all of you :).read more
